“Binge Drinking” como nueva forma de consumo de alcohol en la adolescencia.

Resumen
El fenómeno adictivo es un tema muy complejo y para entenderlo es necesario conocer los conceptos básicos asociados a él. Términos como dependencia, tolerancia, o estado adictivo resultan cruciales. Pero es evidente que son muchas las sustancias capaces de generar un estado adictivo. Esta revisión está centrada fundamentalmente en el alcohol, y la forma en que ha evolucionado su consumo, especialmente en la adolescencia, caracterizado por un patrón abusivo intermitente (fines de semana) que implica la ingesta de grandes cantidades de alcohol en periodos relativamente cortos de tiempo, que se ha denominado “binge drinking”. Esta forma de consumo resulta especialmente preocupante, por sus numerosos efectos perjudiciales; entre éstos destacan modificaciones cerebrales y cognitivas que aparecen en éste colectivo, y que no se sabe hasta qué punto irreversibles. Se hablará explícitamente del circuito de la recompensa, por su gran implicación en el consumo de alcohol y su mantenimiento a lo largo del tiempo.
