(EN) Studies on historical wages are gradually attracting more interest. During the last decades, numerous examples of research on men’s agricultural daily wages have emerged, leaving the importance of women’s wages within the domestic economy aside. Therefore, the main focus of this dissertation is to analyse the contribution to the home economics coming from women that worked as nursemaids in the XVIII and XIX centuries within the Spanish territory. Based on the documents available in the Provincial Archives of the Council of Jaen, the particular case of nursemaids from this province is analysed. The primary characteristic detected in the institutions of Jaen was the recruitment of nursemaids in the urban area, which constitutes an exception. A representative economic sector because of the number of female workers paid a monthly monetary wage makes that a future and more in depth research be of necessity.
