(EN) Widely considered as a sort of golden age, for centuries Classical Antiquity has been a matter of nearly constant interest and analysis on the part of western artists and scholars. This mythology has been subject to a continuous reading and rereading and we have turned to it due to its symbolic-allegorical, cultured, prestigious, didactic or simply evocative nature. In spite of the little interest art historians have shown for it—to the point of not constituting a clearly identified category—, the mythological portrait has been one of the privileged fields for developing mythical or legendary narratives, especially in the Modern Age. This study aims at validating this hypothesis.
