(EN) This review is about delving into some aspects of art brut that are a motive of interest today. The focus is shifted specifically for psychiatric artists, in order to determine the possible cause of the success of this artistic trend and its evolution up to the present day. Jean Dubuffet was the key to the popularity generated around art brut, despite the criticism he received since its introduction into the art market. Works by outsider artists, whose characteristics and techniques appear to be very similar, are compared. The relevance of this type of artists in a Spanish and European context is also discovered. Thanks to art brut and the artists and theorists who supported it, an interest was developed in the relationship between mental illness and art, which has now led to art therapy, a therapeutic trend that it’s beneficial to mental health.
