[EN]The aim of this study was to analyze the association between abdominal and general obesity and body fat distribution with health related quality of life (QoL) specific for menopause. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 122 Spanish postmenopausal women (69.43 ± 9.39 years) in wich the body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, waist-hip ratio and Cervantes Scale (CS) were assessed. Age and physical activity level were used as covariates. The results showed that the android body fat distribution pattern was related to vasomotor symptoms (p=0.044). General obesity (BMI) was associated with worse QoL at a psychological (p=0.022), health (p=0.030) and aging (p=0.037) levels while abdominal obesity was linked to worse QoL assessed with total CS (p=0.027), menopause and health (p=0.049) and sexuality (p=0.019) domains. The study concluded that both general and abdominal obesity, as well as android fat distribution are associated with poor QoL specific for the menopause. Key words: menopause, obesity, quality of life, abdominal fat
