Jane Eyre: A didactic proposal of feminism for coeducation through literature in EFL classroom

Abstract

Este Trabajo de Fin de Master se encarga de analizar los beneficios de proponer la obra de Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre, para coeducar en el feminismo a través de la literatura en la clase de inglés como lengua extranjera. El tema principal de la Unidad Didáctica es la vida de Jane, pero también trata la literatura victoriana, el simbolismo de la obra, los personajes y los dilemas morales que los atañen, de modo que además de mejorar las competencias lingüísticas del alumnado, también los ayuda a reflexionar y mejorar el pensamiento crítico. Es una propuesta que también intenta educar en valores y en la igualdad de derechos de hombres y mujeres, competencias claves en educación hoy en día. Consta de ocho sesiones en una clase de 4o ESO donde hay un proyecto final: una representación teatral de un final alternativo de la historia de Jane.

Jane Eyre, to coeducate in feminism through literature in the English as a foreign language classroom. The main theme of the unit is Jane's life, but it also focuses on Victorian literature, on the symbolism of the work and its topics, on the characters and on the moral dilemmas that concern them, so that it is a teaching unit that not only improves students' language skills, but also helps them to reflect and improve their critical thinking. It is a proposal that also intends to educate in values and equal rights of men and women, key competences in education today. It consists of eight sessions in a 4th year Compulsory Secondary Education class, in which there is a final project: a theatre performance of an alternative ending to Jane’s story.
