A COMPARATIVE STUDY IN ENGLISH AND SCIENCE LEVEL BETWEEN BILINGUAL STUDENTS AND NONBILINGUAL ONES

Abstract

[ES] Este TFM es un trabajo de investigación acerca de las diferencias tanto en inglés, como en ciencias naturales, disciplina no lingüística, entre estudiantes de un centro bilingüe y estudiantes de centros tradicionales. Existen estudios que dicen que el nivel de inglés es más alto en estudiantes bilingües. También existen estudios que dicen que el nivel de ciencias naturales es más alto, otros dicen que es el mismo. Mi objetivo es demostrar que el nivel de los alumnos que estudian en un centro bilingüe es más alto, tanto en inglés como en ciencias naturales. Para ello he elaborado unas pruebas compuestas de una audición y una redacción en inglés y un test sobre ciencias naturales. Los estudiantes han realizado las pruebas y he comparado los resultados, tanto en inglés como en ciencias naturales.

[EN] This MA dissertation is a research-oriented work, a project about the differences between the level, not only in English, but in a non-linguistic area, between students in a bilingual and a non- bilingual school. There are many researches about this topic, stating that the level in English is better in a bilingual school than in a non-bilingual one. Also there are researches that state that the level in a non-linguistic area is better; others state that the level is the same. My objective is to demonstrate that the level is better in a bilingual school in both, English and a non-linguistic area. To do so, I have elaborated a test composed of a listening task and a writing one in English and a test in Science. Pupils from the same grade in both schools have done the tests and I have compared the results in both areas English and Science.
