[en] This study analyses the influence of brick masonry infill walls on the design and structural analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) frame structures featuring piloti stories (ground floor) where the proportion of masonry walls is considerably lower than in the upper stories. A school building and a residential building, both located in a seismically active zone, are considered in this study. Three distinct numerical models are examined: (i) a bare frame model, without considering the influence of brick masonry infills; (ii) a model incorporating the influence of brick masonry infills; and (iii) a model evaluating the incremental influence of brick masonry infills on the bare frame model. The findings reveal a significant impact of the masonry walls, particularly in scenarios where the building was initially analysed without considering their contribution and this influence was subsequently introduced. In such cases, severe damage was observed in both structural and non-structural elements, potentially leading to structural collapse.
