[EN] This project analyzes the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and the direct disinvestment of Spanish companies in Latin American, focusing our interest in Brazil. It’s made an analysis of its temporal evolution, based on the information provided by the Spanish Foreign Investment Registry during the period 1993-2016, examining its behavior in three stages: 1993-2001, 2002-2007 and 2008-2016. Likewise, It’s discussed a sectorial study of Spanish direct investment and disinvestment in the most relevant branches of activity in Brazil, along with a microeconomic study of two Spanish multinationals based in Brazil: Pescanova and Abengoa. The most important conclusions are the following: the largest companies leave Latin America, as well as Brazil, mainly in 1999, 2002 and 2015 due to institutional factors and the economic environment. The telecommunications sector and the financial sector are the largest recipients of investment and direct divestment in Brazil. The analysis of the Spanish multinationals allows us to conclude that their internal financial problems and the recessions of the countries of origin and destination are the main ones responsible for the direct divestment in Brazil.
