Resumen
La esquizofrenia es un trastorno mental grave crónico que afecta al desarrollo social,
intelectual, emocional y laboral de la persona. Las personas que tienen esta enfermedad
mental requieren de un apoyo para solventar sus necesidades, manejar sus síntomas y
mejorar su calidad de vida. En España, el cuidado es abordado principalmente por la
familia, quienes están expuestos a una gran sobrecarga física y mental. Por ello, el
presente trabajo consiste en la presentación de un proyecto centrado en reducir esta
sobrecarga y estrés promoviendo el autocuidado de los propios cuidadores familiares.
De esta manera, el autocuidado actúa como estrategia preventiva para poder
proporcionar un cuidado efectivo a la persona con esquizofrenia.
Schizophrenia is a chronic severe mental disorder that affects a person's social, intellectual, emotional and occupational development. People who have this mental illness require support to meet their needs, manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life. In Spain, care is mainly addressed by the family, who are exposed to great physical and mental overload. For this reason, the present work consists of the presentation of a project focused on reducing this overload and stress by promoting self- care of the family caregivers themselves. In this way, self-care acts as a preventive strategy to be able to provide effective care to the person with schizophrenia.
