El cementerio de Torredonjimeno: historia y evolución

Abstract

Desde los primeros tiempos de la humanidad, el hombre ha sentido la necesidad, de una forma o de otra, de dar sepultura a los muertos y así prepararlos para el viaje hacia la otra vida, además de poder contar con un lugar específico en el que honrarlos y recordarlos. Las formas de enterramiento han ido cambiando con el paso de los siglos y han sido diferentes según las distintas culturas. En este trabajo vamos a dar una pincelada de cómo se desarrollaron los mismos en la península ibérica para después irnos centrando en Andalucía, posteriormente en la provincia de Jaén y terminar por Torredonjimeno, haciendo un recorrido por la historia del actual cementerio de la localidad y por algunas de las sepulturas más destacadas, a nuestro entender, del mismo.

Since the earliest times of humanity, man has felt the need, in one way or another, to bury the dead and thus prepare them for the journey to the afterlife, in addition to being able to have a specific place where honor and remember them. The forms of burial have been changing over the centuries and have been different according to the different cultures. In this work we are going to give a brushstroke of how they developed in the Iberian Peninsula and then focus on Andalusia, later on the province of Jaén and finish with Torredonjimeno, taking a tour through the history of the current cemetery of the town and through some of the most outstanding graves, in our opinion, of the same.
