In this Master Thesis, I develop a one-dimensional flow model that simulates the drainage and filling of Chuja, Kuray and Uimon lakes (Siberia), due to the catastrophic ice-dam failure which retained the water in the lakes during the Late Pleistocene. A numerical code was implemented in Matlab to this end. Also, we simulate the propagation of the flood wave downstream of the dam (Chuja Valley). To this end, the parameters in shallow water equations have been calibrated according to existing data from a complex two-dimensional simulation. Thus, the one-dimensional model and theoretical equations were validated.
