La violencia en la vejez dentro del ámbito familiar y su relación con el edadismo: una revisión bibliográfica desde el trabajo social

Abstract

La violencia hacia las personas mayores en el ámbito familiar es un hecho social que se remonta desde la antigüedad y que, actualmente, afecta a una parte de las personas mayores quienes, por distintas circunstancias, se ven obligadas a mantener el silencio sobre su situación y a seguir permaneciendo inmersas en la misma. De esta manera, existen una serie de factores que favorecen el riesgo de que una persona mayor se convierta en víctima de violencia, entre éstos, la presencia de edadismo en la sociedad y los estereotipos negativos sobre la vejez. Así pues, el presente trabajo fin de grado se centra en conocer cuáles son los factores de riesgo de esta problemática, así como la relación existente entre el edadismo y la violencia hacia las personas mayores. Con éste, se pretende también hacer hincapié en la importancia que tiene que personas profesionales del Trabajo Social, mantengan una visión positiva sobre la vejez para prevenir las conductas de maltrato en su atención hacia este colectivoViolence against the elderly in the family environment is a social fact that dates back to antiquity and currently affects some of the elderly who, for various reasons, are forced to remain silent about their situation and continue to remain immersed in it. Thus, there are a series of factors that favor the risk of an elderly person becoming a victim of violence, among them, the presence of ageism in society and negative stereotypes about old age. Thus, this final thesis is focused on knowing what are the risk factors of this problem, as well as the relationship between ageism and violence towards the elderly. It is also intended to emphasize the importance of Social Work professionals to maintain a positive view of old age in order to prevent abusive behaviors in their attention to this group
