The Transtheoretical Model of behavior change has been one of the most widely used approaches to account for the initiation and maintenance of physical activity practice. In accordance with this perspective, the main objective of the present study was to examine the possible existence of differences in self-efficacy, outcome expectations and psychological well-being according to the participants' stage of development. A total of 167 first-year female university students, with an average age of 19.47 years and enrolled in different undergraduate degrees assigned to the Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences of the University of Jaén, took part in this study. The results showed that, at the time of answering the survey, more than 40% did not perform any type of physical activity. Likewise, the confidence in the ability to engage in physical activity, the social and psychological benefits of its practice and the mental strength attributed to it were higher in girls who reached the last stage of the model.
