“Empowerment, Hyperfemininity and Violence in Killing Eve.” “Empoderamiento, Hiperfeminidad y Violencia en Killing Eve.”

Abstract

[ES] Esta disertación abordará la relación entre la hiperfeminidad y la violencia en el mundo cisheteropatriarcal occidental, teniendo en cuenta que el punto de partida es la hipótesis de que la violencia es innata al ser humano independientemente de las etiquetas hechas por el hombre. Gracias a la creciente popularidad del empoderamiento femenino, parece haber una nueva definición de lo que significa ser hiperfemenino creada por mujeres, en contraste con la tradicional basada en valores patriarcales. Está marcada por la libertad de elección y alienta a las mujeres a ser todo menos sumisas a los hombres. También lidiaremos con cómo dicha relación ha sido presentada en los medios de comunicación por la mirada masculina dominante, y con el programa de televisión Killing Eve, ya que ejemplifica cómo la mirada femenina está trabajando para retratar esos temas ahora que tiene la oportunidad de expresarse y de llegar a audiencias más grandes.

[EN] This dissertation shall deal with the relationship between hyperfemininity and violence in the Western Cisheteropatriarchal world, bearing in mind that the starting point is the hypothesis that violence is innate to human beings regardless of man-made labels. Thanks to the growing popularity of female empowerment, there seems to be a new definition for what being hyperfeminine means that has been created by women, in contrast to the traditional one based on patriarchal values. It is marked by freedom of choice, and it encourages women to be everything but inherently submissive to men. We will also deal with how such relationship has been presented in the media by the dominant male gaze, and with the TV show Killing Eve, as it exemplifies how the female gaze is working on portraying those topics now that it has the chance to express itself and to reach bigger audiences.
