Analysing toxic relationships: a feminist perspective on Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight and Midnight Sun.

Abstract

La literatura ha servido siempre como recurso para expresar la sociedad en la que vivimos. No importa que nos cuenten una historia fantástica o una real, siempre podremos sacar un mensaje de ellas, tanto bueno, como malo. En este ensayo me centraré en un enfoque feminista de la literatura. El propósito de este Trabajo de Fin de Grado es analizar los orígenes y el desarrollo del feminismo, haciendo énfasis en las relaciones tóxicas y en cómo pueden afectar a la gente hoy en día mediante la literatura. Además de ese análisis, este proyecto hablará de la figura de Stephenie Meyer y su aclamada saga Crepúsculo y de cómo la relación de los protagonistas es tóxica.

Literature has always been a device which captures the society we live in. Whether one is telling some fantastic story or an ordinary one, we can always draw some messages, be these good or bad. In this End of Degree Dissertation, I will focus on the feminist perspective of literature in general. The aim is to analyse the origins and development of feminism, paying special attention to toxic relationships and how these can affect people nowadays through literature. In addition to this analysis, this project will address the figure of Stephenie Meyer and her notorious saga Twilight and how the relationship of the main characters is toxic.
