This Final Degree Project is based on a review of the legislation on the protection of the family and children, also achieving an approximation to the different protection measures foreseen for those cases in which minors are in situations of risk or helplessness. . The measure adopted for the minor will always be the most appropriate in accordance with his or her best interests. In this sense, and in line with what is established by law and regulations, it is essential to prioritize family care over residential care and, in turn, respect the preferential nature of extended family care over foster care in another's family. The present work, through a qualitative methodology based on a bibliographic review, aims to know and analyze the reality of foster care in extended families in Spain, focusing attention on the difficulties and support needs present, with a proactive character. The analysis carried out shows that foster care in an extended family needs more professional, economic and social support during the fostering process and help from public administrations through plans and programs. It is, therefore, essential to provide Social Work with tools and thus improve the quality of care for families and children
