TEACHING VARIETIES OF ENGLISH IN COMPULSORY SECONDARY EDUCATION

Abstract

[ES]El principal objetivo de este documento es el de trabajar con los principales acentos y variedades del inglés. Para ello, se tratarán, en primer lugar, una serie de conceptos básicos, pasando a identificarlos a través de sus características más destacadas. A continuación, se describirá una Unidad Didáctica propia, titulada Where are you from?, que incluirá en varias sesiones una serie de clips de películas y/o series adecuadas al nivel, en las que se puedan apreciar los citados acentos de forma clara, con el fin de que el alumnado los identifique.

Palabras clave:[EN]The main aim of this Master’s Thesis is to work on the main accents and varieties of the English language. First of all, basic concepts will be addressed, followed by their identification through noted characteristics. The second part of this document will consist in the description of an originally designed Didactic Unit titled Where are you from? Throughout some sessions, it will include several movies and/or TV series clips suitable for the level, in which students will be able to appreciate the aforementioned English accents in a clear way, with the aim of the identification of each one.
