"La gran Depresión y el New Deal". Contexto y análisis socioeconómico y político, complementado a través del cine y la fotografía

Abstract

[ES] El Crack de 1929, la mayor crisis económica del siglo XX, trajo consigo importantes consecuencias económicas, sociales y pollticas que afectaron no solo a los Estados Unidos, sino que t rascendieron con virulencia más allá de sus fronteras. Con la llegada a la presidencia de Roosevelt en 1933, se impulsaron un conjunto de reformas sociales y económicas, conocidas como New Deal, tendentes hacer frente tanto al origen como a las consecuencias de la crisis. Fue el fin del laissezfaire pasando el Gobierno a abrazar los postulados económicos de Keynes. Una parte del cine que se realizó en ese periodo, contribuyó a transmitir valores newdealistas y buscó incrementar la cohesión de la sociedad. Por otro lado, la Farm Security Administration puso en marcha un interesante proyecto de fotografía documental que dio a conocer la miserable situación en la que se encontraban cientos de miles de jornaleros y granjeros en los Estados Unidos.

[EN] The Wall Street Crash of 1929, the most devastating stock market crash in the 20th century, brought a lot of important political, economic and social consequences. These consequences affected not only the United States, but also countries beyond its frontiers. Soon after assuming charge as US president in 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt introduced a series of economic and social measures, known as the New Deal, to fight against the origin and consequences of this crisis. That was the end of "laissez faire" and the beginning of the economic post u lates by John Maynard Keynes. A great number of films produced in this period contributed to the transmission of New Deal val u es and the cohesion of the North American society. On the other hand, the Farm Security Administration carried out a documentary photography project, which showed the situation that thousands of workers and farmers were suffering at that time in the USA.
