Resumen
(ES) Con el fin de la Revolución de 1910 se produce en México una nueva etapa política y
social que dio lugar al muralismo mexicano. Este movimiento artístico, estrechamente
vinculado al carácter educativo y a los nuevos ideales políticos, buscaba transmitir su mensaje
al pueblo, siendo sus obras realizadas en los muros de edificios públicos. Los principales
representantes del movimiento pretendían devolver al país la identidad nacional a través de la
crítica social y la tradición, para lo cual usaran un lenguaje plástico ligado al indigenismo, la
revolución y con motivos populares.
Por tanto, en este trabajo se recoge el origen, desarrollo y decadencia, así como datos
biográficos y obra pictórica de los artistas más representativos del muralismo. Todo ello con la
intención de comprender el nacimiento y evolución de este movimiento contemporáneo que
supondrá un antes y un después en el arte mexicano, y que influenciará en el arte internacional.
(EN) The end of the 1910 Revolution brought a new political and social era in México, that gave rise to Mexican muralism. This artistic movement, linked to the educational and new political ideals, wanted to transmit a message to the people, through painting on walls of public buildings. The main figures of the movement aimed to restore the country’s national identity via social criticism and tradition. To do this, they used a pictorial language linked to indigenism, revolution and popular themes. Therefore, in this study contains the origin, development and decadence, as well as biographical data and pictorial work of the most representative artists of muralism. All this with the intention of understanding the origin and evolution of this contemporary movement, which will be a before and after in Mexican art, and which will influence international art.
