Resumen
Se investigó si el perfil de seguimiento de Instagram (grupo problemático vs. no problemático;
imágenes neutrales y no idealizadas.
autoestima y mayores cogniciones alimenticias disruptivas.
We investigated whether Instagram profile following (problematic vs. non-problematic groups; identified by k-means cluster analysis as a function of the number of followed "beauty" profiles and social comparison effects when viewing these types of profiles) influenced body dissatisfaction (BD) resulting from viewing ideal (fitness and thin) and non-idealized (obese) bodies. We also examined whether self-esteem and disruptive eating cognitions/behaviors predicted group belonging. The problematic group (vs. non-problematic) felt greater BD after viewing fitness and thin bodies, but not when viewing neutral and non-idealized body images. In addition, being in the problematic group was associated with lower self-esteem and higher disruptive eating cognitions. Women with a problematic pattern of following beauty profiles were particularly affected in their BD when viewing ideal bodies, and also had lower self-esteem and more inappropriate eating attitudes.
