A phrasal verbs-centered approach to enhance Official Schools of Languages students’ English oral skills

Resumen
(ES)El objetivo de este proyecto ha sido poner de relieve la importancia de dominar el uso de verbos
frasales para mejorar las destrezas orales de los estudiantes hispanohablantes de inglés. Así, se
conciencia a los alumnos de la relevancia de hablar y escuchar de forma natural en el proceso de
aprendizaje del inglés. Para ello se ha diseñado una unidad didáctica orientada a alumnos de C1 de
Escuela Oficial de Idiomas, adoptando un método ecléctico a partir de las necesidades de los alumnos y
centrado en la comunicación. Al completar con éxito las actividades, los estudiantes no solo
aumentaron el uso de verbos frasales, sino que también mejoraron las destrezas orales en situaciones
informales y se volvieron hablantes más naturales y mejores oyentes. Esto ha servido de base para
desarrollar formas y actividades más eficaces para combinar los verbos frasales y las destrezas orales en
el aula de inglés.
(EN)This project aimed to emphasize the importance of mastering the use of phrasal verbs to improve the oral skills of Spanish-speaking learners of English, raising students’ awareness of the significance of natural speaking and listening in the English learning process. This has been achieved by means of the design of a didactic unit for C1 Official School of Languages students, adopting an eclectic method based on the learners’ needs and focusing on communication. By successfully completing the activities, students not only increased their use of phrasal verbs, but also improved their oral skills in informal situations and became more natural speakers and better listeners. This has served as a basis and inspiration to develop more effective, innovative ways and activities to dovetail phrasal verbs with oral skills in the English classroom, and also invites researchers to provide more variety to the lessons and individualize the teaching-learning process even more.
