[ES] El propósito del presente trabajo es analizar la conversión de la monarquía visigótica al catolicismo a
finales del siglo VI, con especial atención al tratamiento de la figura del príncipe Hermenegildo, en la tradición cronística anterior a Alfonso X el Sabio, desde Juan de Bíclaro a Rodrigo Jiménez de Rada.
Nuestra investigación, por consiguiente, recorrerá, desde finales del siglo VI hasta principios del siglo
XIII, un número considerable de fuentes latinas con objeto de localizar y explicar cabalmente los hitos que marcaron un cambio decisivo en la valoración del personaje que pasó de ser considerado un rebelde, traidor a su padre, a ser ensalzado como mártir del catolicismo.
[EN] The purpose of this academic work is to analyze the conversion of the Visigothic monarchy to the Catholicism at the end of the 6th century, with special attention to the treatment of the figure of Prince Hermenegildo, in the chronicle tradition before Alfonso X the Wise, from Juan de Bíclaro to Rodrigo Jiménez de Rada. Our investigation, therefore, will cover, from the end of the 6th century until the beginning of the 13th century, a considerable number of Latin sources in order to locate and fully explain the milestones that marked a decisive change in the character's valuation that went from being considered a rebel, traitor to his father, to be exalted as a martyr of the Catholicism.
