Resumen
[ES] Instagram ha supuesto una revolución en la forma en la que funciona la sociedad y en el ámbito de la
educación. Este trabajo pretende revisar críticamente la efectividad de Instagram en la enseñanza y
aprendizaje de la escritura en el inglés como lengua extranjera. En la bibliografía consultada, se ha
analizado el papel de Instagram, explorando sus diferentes herramientas, aplicaciones y funciones,
además de las principales tipologías de actividades basadas en esta plataforma. Este estudio se ha
centrado prioritariamente en el rol y perspectivas tanto del profesorado como del alumnado ante su uso
como herramienta educativa. Los resultados de diversas investigaciones proporcionan respuestas
concluyentes en cuanto a las principales implicaciones pedagógicas y, a pesar de determinados
inconvenientes, éstos no suponen una gran limitación ya que tanto las ventajas como las reacciones
positivas superan con creces los aspectos negativos. Para concluir, se proponen futuras líneas de
investigación.
[EN] Instagram has brought about a revolution in the way society works and in the field of education. This dissertation aims to critically review the effectiveness of Instagram in the teaching and learning of writing in English as a Foreign Language (EFL). In the bibliography consulted, the role of Instagram has been analysed, exploring its different tools, applications, and functions, as well as the main typologies of Instagram-based activities. This study has mainly focused on the role and perspectives of both teachers and students regarding its use as an educational tool. The results of different research approaches provide conclusive answers regarding the main pedagogical implications and, despite certain drawbacks, these do not represent a major limitation as both the advantages and the positive reactions far outweigh the negative aspects. To conclude, future lines of research are proposed.
