España ha sostenido el modelo de atención a las personas con discapacidad, vulnerabilidad o dependencia, en función del cuidado familiar. La intervención pública ha tenido un carácter auxiliar, mediante las residencias para adultos mayores con principios asistenciales, sin embargo, la dificultad en la accesibilidad y la falta de autonomía para los usuarios de estos centros, ha originado la necesidad de otras alternativas de vivienda para el adulto mayor. En el presente estudio se hace una descripción del cohousing como modelo de vida comunitaria que favorece el envejecimiento activo y saludable, haciendo una investigación sobre las ventajas y las desventajas de esta modalidad de comunidad cooperativa que se está propagando en España. Para ello, se realizó una revisión bibliográfica por la base de datos Google Académico, de las cuales se
seleccionaron 38 artículos. Se concluyó el desarrollo de estos modelos de vivienda, son sostenibles y brindan experiencias positivas en beneficio a una vida saludable y activa para los adultos mayores. Los estudios revisados, corroboran que el cohousing es una oportunidad distinta para el adulto mayor que otorga beneficios en su calidad de vida

Public intervention has had an auxiliary character, through residences for the elderly with assistance principles, however, the difficulty in accessibility and the lack of autonomy for the users of these centers, has originated the need for other housing alternatives for the elderly. This study describes cohousing as a model of community living that favors active and healthy aging, investigating the advantages and disadvantages of this type of cooperative community that is spreading in Spain. For this purpose, a bibliographic review was carried out through the Google Scholar database, from which 38 articles were selected. It was concluded that the development of these housing models are sustainable and provide positive experiences that benefit a healthy and active life for older adults. The studies reviewed corroborate that cohousing is a different opportunity for the elderly that provides benefits in their quality of life
