ESTUDIO DE LAS ACTITUDES PARENTALES HACIA LA OBESIDAD INFANTIL

Abstract

El incremento en la prevalencia global de la obesidad se ha producido en paralelo al aumento en la estigmatización asociada al peso corporal. La investigación revela que esta actitud prejuiciosa ejerce un impacto negativo en los niños y niñas obesos. En este trabajo se evaluaron las actitudes que madres y padres mostraban hacia la imagen de dos niños (uno de ellos normopeso y otro obeso) con el objetivo de conocer si existía un sesgo negativo explícito hacia la obesidad infantil. Para ello se empleó la "Escala Breve de Fobia a la Gordura". Los resultados revelaron la existencia de una actitud pre juiciosa negativa por parte de los padres participantes hacia la imagen del joven obeso. Concretamente, de los 14 pares de adjetivos de los que constaba la prueba en 12 de ellos se observaron diferencias estadísticamente significativas en las valoraciones realizadas a dos niños imaginarios. Estos resultados son discutidos atendiendo a investigaciones previas.

The increase on the global prevalence of obesity has been produced at the same time to the rise of the stigmatization associated to the corporal weight. The research reveals that this prejudiced attitude put a negative impact on the obese children. In this work has been evaluated attitudes that mothers and fathers show to the image that two children (one of them normal weight and the other obese) with the aim of knowing if it exists an explicit negative bias towards children's obesity. For that, it has been employed the "Escala Breve de Fobia a la Gordura". The results reveal the existence of a negative prejudiced attitude for the part of the participating parents towards the image of the young obese. In particular, 12 of the 14 adjectives of which the proof consist of, it is showed statistics meaningful differences on the valuations realized to two imaginary children.
