Resumen
CRISPR/Cas9 es un sistema que forma parte de la defensa inmunitaria de bacterias y arqueas frente a las infecciones
víricas. Está compuesto por una proteína específica denominada Cas9 y un ARN guía que, al ser combinados, son
capaces de identificar, cortar y destruir una secuencia de ADN vírico. Debido a esta capacidad y a su sencillez es
actualmente uno de los más importantes avances en la edición genómica, teniendo sus aplicaciones gran utilidad en el
ámbito de la terapia génica.
En esta revisión, además de lo descrito anteriormente, hablaremos del funcionamiento de este sistema, de su
estructura y composición, así como de los inconvenientes que presenta y de las implicaciones éticas existentes
alrededor de sus posibles aplicaciones.

It is made up of a specific protein called Cas9 and a guide RNA that, when combined, are capable of identifying, cutting and destroying a viral DNA sequence. Due to this capacity and its simplicity, it is currently one of the most important advances in genomic editing, having its applications great utility in the area of gene therapy. In this review, in addition to what is described above, we will talk about the operation of this system, its structure and composition, as well as the drawbacks it presents and the ethical implications existing around its possible applications.
