CRITICAL THINKING AS A TOOL FOR EFL LEARNING: A PROJECT-BASED APPROACH USING FAHRENHEIT 451

Abstract

(ES) El presente Trabajo Fin de Máster busca integrar el pensamiento crítico en el aula de Inglés como Lengua Extranjera (EFL). Para lograrlo, emplea la literatura y el Aprendizaje Basado en Proyectos (ABP), destacando la importancia de esta habilidad en secundaria. El ABP se presenta como una metodología eficaz para fomentar la autonomía y el compromiso del alumnado. Se utilizará Fahrenheit 451 de Ray Bradbury como base, explorando temas como la censura y la libertad de expresión. La propuesta incluye una situación de aprendizaje diseñada para alumnos de 4o de ESO, con actividades que desarrollan tanto el lenguaje como el pensamiento crítico. El proyecto final consiste en la creación de un noticiero basado en la novela. El objetivo es demostrar cómo la combinación de literatura y ABP puede enriquecer la enseñanza del inglés, mejorando la competencia lingüística y el pensamiento crítico.

(EN) This Master's Final Project aims to integrate Critical Thinking into the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. To achieve this, it utilizes Literature and Project- Based Learning (PBL), highlighting the importance of this skill in secondary education. PBL is presented as an effective methodology for fostering student autonomy and engagement. Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 will serve as the foundation, exploring themes like censorship and freedom of expression. The proposal includes a learning situation designed for 4th-year ESO students, featuring activities that develop both language proficiency and Critical Thinking. The final project involves creating a news broadcast based on the novel. The objective is to demonstrate how combining Literature and PBL can enrich English teaching, improving both linguistic competence and critical thinking skills.
