[EN] Learning a language goes far beyond knowing its rules and acquiring its vocabulary, as it contains and reflects sociocultural aspects which show the reality of its speakers and the circumstances that surround them. Using a language has the aim of communicating with others and, to do so, it implies understanding other speakers’ culture and way of living. Considering the role of English as an international language, intercultural communicative competence needs to be addressed. This language evolves and adapts itself to the pluricultural and plurilingual societies that use it as a lingua franca. Accordingly, its speakers have to move forward as well and develop cultural awareness to be intercultural speakers of English. This master’s dissertation addresses intercultural communicative competence in teaching English as an additional language and proposes a lesson plan that incorporates this approach for English teaching in Compulsory Secondary Education.
