To speak about the history of Social Work in Spain, it is indispensable to find out its development in terms of methodology, training, the social intervention development in different sectors, both public and private, the institutions configuration, political issues which have influenced the action, the ideological and theoretical references that have guided praxis at any time. The life stories of Rosa Domènech and Montserrat Colomer contribute enough information about historical development of Social Work in Spain. Keeping in mind that the social, economic and ideological context of a country determines how to manage social issues, these two leading figures offer their experiences regarding Social Work around two stages which marked a milestone in this profession, the dictatorial regime and the democracy advent. Their stories show us how the Social Work changes from being a voluntary work and an act of grace of religious bodies dominated by female role to being an accredited profession and carried out by the Administration in order to ensure the basic social services of a Welfare State.
