THE USE OF AUDIO-VISUAL MATERIALS IN THE EFL SECONDARY EDUCATION

Abstract

[ES] Este Trabajo de Fin de Máster tiene como objetivo analizar el uso de los materiales audiovisuales en las clases de inglés como lengua extranjera en la ESO. En primer lugar, en el marco teórico se desarrolla la función que desempeñan estos materiales en clase, como fuente de motivación, expresividad, información, entretenimiento, evaluación e investigación. No solo es importante conocer los motivos por lo que tiene un gran impacto entre los estudiantes, sino también cómo utilizan esta herramienta de aprendizaje. Para concluir esta parte, se enumerarán las ventajas y desventajas de su uso, así como también las diferentes formas que existen para clasificar estos materiales según diferentes autores. La segunda parte de este Trabajo de Fin de Máster incluye una unidad didáctica formada en la que se refleja el uso de materiales audiovisuales en las clases de inglés como lengua extranjera. El objetivo es integrar correctamente estos materiales en el aula para atraer la atención de los estudiantes, tener una experiencia lo más real posible, fomentar el trabajo autónomo, desarrollar su imaginación, reforzar sus habilidades y aumentar su capacidad de retención.

[EN] The present dissertation carries out an analysis of the use of audio-visual materials in the EFL class in the Compulsory Secondary Education. Firstly, the theoretical framework analyses the progress of these materials throughout the centuries and the positive effects of using them as an aid to increase their interest on the subject. Next, the functions of using these materials will be explained, namely, as a source of motivation, with an informative or expressive function, for research, evaluation or as an entertaining educational aid. It is essential to know the reasons why these materials have a great impact on the students, and also how are they used in class as a powerful learning tool. On the other hand, there is a classification of the different types of audio-visual materials to know which of them are the most appropriate. The second part will consist of a lesson plan. It will reflect the implementation of these materials in the EFL class to acquire efficient ways to learn a foreign language, to develop students’ imagination, to have a real experience in class and to promote autonomy.
