[EN] Trafficking in persons is one of the major problems today that violates human rights. Among the different types of trafficking, trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation predominates, affecting mainly women and children, and is considered a way of gender violence. This makes it essential to study this phenomenon from the gender perspective, since it has its origin in the consequences derived from the social inequalities to which the female victims are exposed. Therefore, this paper emphasizes that its support is due to the demand for prostitution, consumer activity quite standardized in Spanish society. Trafficking in women for the purpose of sexual exploitation is regulated in Spain by wide of the European legislation, since our country has only the Comprehensive Plan to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings for Sexual Exploitation purposes. This brief study presents different proposals for the eradication of this scourge and the attainment of real equality between men and women.
