The elimination of organic compounds used as additives in polymers is essential for their subsequent recycling stages. In collaboration with the company FLEXIA FILMS, which provided the pellets, three different extraction techniques were used, using distilled water as the sole extracting agent. The systems used were continuous extraction with a Soxhlet, Ultrasound (US) assisted extraction and thirdly, hydrodistillation using a modified Clevenger. The results show that an organic fraction of volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds used as plasticisers and additives is removed.
