Ansiedad, depresión y enfermedad de parkinson. Posibilidades terapéuticas.

Abstract

[ES] La Enfermedad de Parkinson (EP) es la segunda enfermedad neurodegenerativa más común, conocida mayormente por sus síntomas motores. Síntomas no motores como la ansiedad y depresión se encuentran en un segundo plano. Estas impactan negativamente en la calidad de vida y son posibles indicadores de una neurodegeneración latente. Actualmente, el tratamiento más común de la EP se basa en el reemplazamiento de la dopamina (DA). Ningún tratamiento está dirigido a interrumpir el proceso neurodegenerativo, como tampoco existe una terapia eficaz para tratar la ansiedad y depresión en la EP. Este trabajo sostiene que terapias alternativas a las farmacológicas tradicionales retrasarán, evitarán o aliviarán estos trastornos psiquiátricos. El objetivo es ofrecer una variedad de estrategias terapéuticas con propiedades antiinflamatorias, antioxidantes, y neuroprotectoras; y con efectos ansiolíticos y/o antidepresivos. Se sigue un breve recorrido por la fisiopatología de la EP, ansiedad y depresión para proponer potentes estrategias terapéuticas.

[EN] Parkinson Disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder. It is typically known by motor symptoms. In this sense, non-motor symptoms, such as anxiety and depression, tend to be ignored. They negatively impact the quality of life and are possible signs of a latent neurodegenerative disease. Nowadays, the most common therapy in PD is the replacement of dopamine. There are no effective treatments to interrupt the neurodegenerative process or deal with anxiety and depression in PD. This review defends that different therapies from the traditional ones will delay, avoid or alleviate these mental disorders. In this way, the aim is to offer anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and neuroprotective therapeutic strategies with anxiolytic and antidepressant effects. What is found on this paper can be summed up with the idea that examining the nature of PD, anxiety and depression can facilitate the finding of potent therapeutic strategies.
