The objective of this project is the use of the digital image correlation technique to characterize mortars with olive pits as a substitute of sand. In this way, a new use can be given, as well as valorizing this residue from the olive grove industry. It is also intended to find a sustainable solution using a residue from an activity as raw material in another sector, in this case construction, since this by-product improves thermophysical characteristics in the concrete mortars. With the use of this technique it has been possible to obtain Young's Modulus and Poisson's ratio, allowing a more complete study of these materials. The use of the DIC during the mechanical tests has allowed the possibility of knowing the field of displacements and deformations of each specimen during their respective tests, allowing to identify the area in which the crack will appear and the material will fail.
