[ES] La enzima glutatión peroxidasa es una enzima perteneciente al grupo las peroxidasas que utiliza glutatión como donante de electrones, se encarga de la detoxificación celular junto a otras enzimas. Al principio su existencia era conocida sólo en mamíferos, pero recientemente se ha descubierto la presencia de esta enzima en plantas. En esta revisión se expone la estructura y funcionamiento de la glutatión peroxidasa, así como la aportación de una información actualizada de esta enzima de la cual se conoce poco aún.
[EN] The enzyme glutathione peroxidase is an enzyme belonging to the group peroxidases that uses glutathione as electron donar, is responsible far cell detoxification with other enzymes. At first, its existence was only known in mammals, but recently the presence of this enzyme in plants has been discovered. In this review, the structure and functioning of glutathione peroxidase are explained, as well as the contribution of updated information about this enzyme, of which is little known yet.
