The following systematic revision aims to summarize the current evidence about risk factors in the suicidal behaviour of patients with schizophrenia. For that matter, a corpus of literature from the past five years has been examined. Some of the conclusions obtained differ from previous studies in terms of the influence of certain variabilities, such as the positive symptomatology, whereas other risk factors are kept as the main causers of the disorder’s fatidic ending. That is the case of previous attempts of committing suicide or the symptoms of a depressive disorder. There is a need for further investigation on variables that do not offer consistent conclusions. Some protecting factors included are the early diagnosis, the treatment of depressive symptoms or the decrease of stigma. It is of utter importance the necessity for a major research with respect to the programs of suicide prevention available for this type of population.
