ENGLISH IMMERSION COURSE FOR THREE YEARS OLD CHILDREN

Abstract

[ES] En este proyecto hemos establecido una programación anual para un curso de inmersión lingüística en inglés para niños y niñas de 3 años que nunca han esstado en contacto con la lengua extranjera. El objetivo principal del curso diseñado es enseñar inglés pero siguiendo el currículum establecido por el gobierno español/valenciano para el primer ciclo de Educación Infantil así que hemos trabajado dentro del área de Contenido y Lengua Integrados (CLIL). Defendemos que la inmersión lingüística en edades tempranas es la mejor manera de aprender una lengua extranjera. Hemos seguido el modelo de inmersión iniciado en Canadá en los años 50 y que hoy encontramos también en EEUU y en muchos países de Europa. Los resultados, siguiendo el currículo valenciano, están divididos en tres áreas: Conocimiento de uno mismo y autonomía personal; Conocimiento del entorno; y Lenguas.

[EN] In this research project we have established a lesson plan for a whole school year in an English immersion school for students who are three years old and who have never had contact berfore with the foreign language. The main objective of the course designed is to teach English across the Spanish/Valencian curriculum for the first stage of Childhood Education so we have worked within the area of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). We advocate that immoersion in an L2 at an early age is the best way to learn a foraign language. We followed the model of language immersion schools started in Canada in the 50s and now also found in the U.S. and in many European countries. The results, following the Valencian regin curriculum, are divided into three areas: Social development, knowledge of oneself and autonomy; Knowledge and understanding of the world; and languages.
