Resumen
La conquista de América fue un acontecimiento decisivo para el devenir de la
humanidad. Su magnitud no dejó indiferente a nadie, y aún hoy se siguen articulando
discursos históricos en torno a la actuación de los españoles al otro lado del Atlántico. En este
trabajo matizo algunas de esas actuaciones, y desarrollo en profundidad la repercusión de
cada una de las modificaciones de una de las instituciones más criticadas de este proceso, la
encomienda, pudiendo distinguir tres grandes momentos: una etapa inicial, otra tras
promulgar las Leyes de Burgos y otra tras las Leyes Nuevas. También esclarezco la actuación
de otras instituciones como el Santo Oficio, así como las consecuencias de la conversión en
territorio español del Nuevo Mundo, ahondando en lo social y, concretamente, en el proceso de mestizaje.
The conquest of America was a decisive event for the future of humanity. Its magnitude did not leave anyone indifferent, and even today they continue to be articulated historical discourses around the performance of the Spaniards on the other side of the Atlantic. I also clarify the performance of other institutions such as the Holy Office, as well as the consequences of conversion in Spanish territory of the New World, delving into the social and, specifically, the process of miscegenation.
