APORTACIONES AL CAMPO TEÓRICO DEL TRABAJO SOCIAL PARA LA INTERVENCIÓN SOCIAL DESDE/CON ANIMALES

Abstract

La Intervención Asistida con Animales es un campo de estudio reciente, que a pesar del auge que está experimentando en las últimas décadas, adolece de bases empíricas científicas que avalen de manera fiable su uso en el ámbito social. Intervención Asistida con Animales, sigue viéndose como sinónimo de Terapia Asistida con Animales, por lo que sus beneficios físicos, psicológicos y sociales siguen encuadrándose en un contexto clínico más que social. Su análisis dentro de la disciplina del Trabajo Social queda justificado por las insuficientes referencias bibliográficas sobre el tema abordado en su campo de conocimiento y por la posibilidad de incorporar al animal cómo instrumento de intervención metodológico, más allá de los puramente tradicionales, con el propósito de contribuir en la mejora física, emocional, social y cognitiva de las personas.

Animal Assisted Intervention is a recent field of study that despite it is reaching its peak in the last decades, it lacks scientific empirical basis which support its use in the social environment in a trustworthy way. Animal Assisted Intervention is still considered as a synonym of Animal Assisted Therapy, so its physical, psychological and social benefits are related to a clinical context instead of a social one. Its analysis within the Social Work discipline is justified by the insufficient bibliographical references about the subject broached in its field and by the possibility of using a animal as a methodological instrument of intervention, apart from the purely traditional ones, for the purpose of contributing in the physical, emotional, social and cognitive improvement of people.
