Empleo de cubierta vegetal en olivar y presencia de fauna auxiliar

Abstract

Se realiza una revisión bibliografía acerca del conocimiento sobre las cubiertas vegetales, su empleo en olivar y su relación con la fauna auxiliar. El uso de cubiertas vegetales potencia la presencia de este tipo de fauna auxiliar favoreciendo el control biológico de plagas y enfermedades y por tanto, una disminución del empleo de fitosanitarios. Los resultados manifiestan la abundante literatura científica acerca del empleo de cubiertas vegetales para favorecer la presencia de fauna auxiliar en el olivar, la cual se ha visto incrementada en los últimos años de manera notable, sobre todo con estudios realizados en España. Con los datos bibliográficos analizados, podemos afirmar que el control biológico de plagas en el olivar es posible y se ve favorecido por la presencia de cubiertas vegetales o manchas de vegetación, y que es una opción que poco a poco va calando entre los agricultores. Su implantación supondría una mejora para el medio ambiente ya que se podrían dejar de usar una gran cantidad de pesticidas, además, la reducción de los pesticidas redundaría en la obtención de aceitunas y aceite de mejor calidad, ambos se verían reflejado en una mejora de la rentabilidad de las explotaciones agrícolas al reducir los gastos en fitosanitarios y al ver incrementado el precio de venta del aceite.

A bibliographical review about the knowledge about the vegetal covers, its use in olive groves and its relationship with the auxiliary fauna is carried out. The use of plant covers enhances the presence of this type of auxiliary fauna, favoring the biological control of pests and diseases and, therefore, a decrease in the use of phytosanitary products. The results show the abundant scientific literature on the use of plant covers to favor the presence of auxiliary fauna in the olive grove, which has increased remarkably in recent years, especially with studies carried out in Spain. With these bibliographies analyzed, we can affirm that biological pest control in olive groves is possible and is favored by the presence of plant covers or patches of vegetation, and that it is an option that little by little is gaining ground among farmers. Its implementation would mean an improvement for the environment since a large number of pesticides could be stopped, in addition, the reduction of pesticides would result in obtaining better quality olives and oil, both would be reflected in an improvement in the profitability of agricultural exploitations by reducing expenses in phytosanitary products and by seeing an increase in the sale price of oil.
