When Heores Meet Orwell: Towards Utopia in the Classroom

Abstract

[ES]El siglo XX dejó como legado el resultado de la unión entre la crueldad del ser humano y los últimos avances tecnológicos. Las Guerras Mundiales y sus secuelas, que prometían paz a la humanidad, no eran sino un engaño a las masas, que escondía genocidio y masacre, por la avaricia del sueño utópico egoísta de los más algos cargos en la tiranía. George Orwell fue el mejor ilustrador de la impotencia del individuo en esa sofocante situación, y de la inevitable caída del héroe rebelde ante el estado corrupto. Nace así la distopía, combinación de la brutalidad primitiva con el mundo futurista para criticar el presente. Sin embargo, precisamente este análisis de la historia ha permitido a otros héroes no caer e los mismos errores del pasado, luchando por un futuro más pacífico y cooperativo. Y eso mismo es lo que intentará realizar este trabajo.[EN]The 20th century left as a legacy the resulting union between human cruelty and the latest technological advances. The World Wars and their war sequel, promising peace to humanity, were no other thing than the deceit to the masses, hiding genocide and massacre, due to the greed of the egoistical utopian dream of tyrannical powers. George Owell was the best illustrator of the individual impotence in this suffocating situagion, and the inevitable fall of the rebel hero against the corrupt state. Thus, dystopia is born, combining the primitive brutality and a futuristic world to analyse the present. Nonetheless, it is precisely this historical analysis which has permitted other heroes not to fall in the same mistakes of the past, fighting for a more pacific and cooperative future. And this is exactly what this piece of work will try to achieve.
