An OBE is considered a type of subjetive experience, in which the individual perceives his center of consciousness as outside his physical body. In addition, these experiences are normally accompanied by a phenomenon called autoscopy, characterized by seeing your own body from the outside as if it were a third person. Despite the multiple attempts to give meaning to this phenomenon, it is still early to provide a consensus definition. Till the date, we know that OBE have been linked to multisensory desintegration and poor processing of the body itself in the temporoparietal juction, a projection of the vestibular system key to integrate multisensory signals (visual, somatosensory and vestibular) that can be produced by various complex neurological and psychological phenomena, ranging from stimulation or brain damage to illusions caused by dissociations in perceptual processes.
