La Terapia asistida con animales (TAA) en la depresión: Revisión sistemática

Abstract

La terapia asistida con animales ha supuesto un gran avance y un complemento bastante eficaz en el tratamiento de trastornos emocionales como la depresión. El objetivo de este trabajo es una revisión sistemática de las investigaciones realizadas en este campo que han sugerido que la Terapia Asistida con Animales (TAA) funciona como complemento. La búsqueda se ha realizado en bases científicas especializadas (ProQuest y PubMed) identificándose doce estudios. Aunque es cierto que muchas de las investigaciones muestran limitaciones de cara a una total fiabilidad sobre los descubrimientos como por ejemplo, la imposibilidad metodológica del “doble ciego” en el procedimiento experimental; así como la no asignación al azar de los participantes a los diferentes grupos experimentales. Sin embargo, aún con estas limitaciones se han obtenido unos resultados favorables en cuanto a la mejoría de los síntomas de depresión y otros aspectos sociales, personales y cognitivos respecto al grupo control de las investigaciones.

Animal-assisted therapy has been a great advance and a very effective complement in the treatment of emotional disorders such as depression. The objective of this work is a systematic review of the investigations carried out in this field that have suggested that Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) works as a complement. The search was carried out in specialized scientific bases (ProQuest and PubMed), identifying twelve studies. Although it is true that many of the investigations show limitations in terms of total reliability of the findings, such as, for example, the methodological impossibility of "double blind" in the experimental procedure; as well as the non-randomization of the participants to the different experimental groups. However, even with these limitations, favorable results have been obtained in terms of the improvement of depression symptoms and other social, personal and cognitive aspects compared to the control group of the investigations.
