[EN]Spain is located in the Mediterranean area and, therefore, its population should follow the Mediterranean diet, with virgin olive oil as the main fat source. The present study aims to study the lipid intake and its fatty acids profile in a population of students from the University of Jaen, and the possible relationship with BMI values, 8-Isoprostanes excreted in urine, as an index of oxidative stress. Three-day dietary records were analyzed with the DIAL software, in order to calculate the fatty acids intake. To determine the concentration of 8-Isoprostanes in urine, ELISA kit was used. The results suggest a direct linear relationship between BMI and the lipid amount in the diet. However, we did not find relationship with the intake of monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fatty acids. A relationship between the intake of AGP and the excretion of 8-Isoprostanes was also established, indicating higher levels of oxidative stress in these subjects.
