The Representation of Feminism in Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own and Three Guineas

Abstract

Virginia Woolf es una de las autoras del siglo XX más reconocidas respecto a su lucha por los derechos de las mujeres y la representación del feminismo en cada una de sus obras, pero, sobre todo, en sus ensayos Una habitación propia (1929) y Tres Guineas (1938). Por un lado, en cuanto a Una habitación propia, en este trabajo se van a estudiar los temas más relevantes de esta obra en relación al concepto de feminismo, tales como: la pobreza de las mujeres, la consideración de las esferas pública y privada, la relación entre las mujeres y la literatura, además, la exploración de la sexualidad. Por otro lado, más adelante se van a estudiar los temas más importantes de Tres Guineas, tales como: la educación de las mujeres, la vida profesional de las mujeres y, por último, el fascismo y la guerra.Virginia Woolf is one of the most recognized authors of the 20th century regarding her fight for women's rights and the representation of feminism in each of her works, but, above all, in her essays A Room of One’s Own and Three Guineas. On the one hand, regarding A Room of One’s Own, this dissertation will study the most relevant topics of this work in relation to the concept of feminism, such as: the poverty of women, the consideration of the public and private spheres, the relation between women and literature, and the exploration of sexuality. On the other hand, the most important topics of Three Guineas will be studied, such as: the education of women, the professional life of women and, finally, fascism and war.
