LA CONSPIRACIÓN DE SILENCIO

Abstract

Cuando una persona, a causa de una enfermedad, llega al final de su vida, ¿se debe de compartir esa información con la persona enferma? En el presente Trabajo fin de Grado se presenta una revisión bibliográfica sobre el concepto conocido como “conspiración de silencio”, mediante el cual tanto familiares como profesionales ocultan parcial o totalmente información al paciente sobre la gravedad de su diagnóstico. Asimismo, se presentan los motivos que llevan a la aparición de la conspiración de silencio y las consecuencias que tiene, como el alto impacto emocional que este fenómeno crea en los pacientes o la imposibilidad de aceptación y afrontamiento del proceso. También se describen pautas y técnicas para comunicar malas noticias de forma que la información se adapte a las necesidades del paciente y de la familia.

When a person, because of an illness, reaches the end of his life, should he share that information with the sick person? In this proyect, a bibliographical review of the concept known as "conspiracy of silence" is presented, in which both family members and professionals partially or totally conceal information about the severity of their diagnosis. It also presents the reasons that lead to the appearance of the conspiracy of silence and the consequences it has, such as the high emotional impact that this phenomenon creates in patients or the impossibility of accepting and coping with the process. It also describes guidelines and techniques for communicating bad news so that information is tailored to the needs of the patient and the family.
