SEXISMO AMBIVALENTE EN ADOLESCENTES

Abstract

La percepción sobre las características y roles que deben tener las personas por tener uno u otro sexo tiene un impacto en la propia identidad y en las actitudes sobre los demás. En el estudio se plantea como objetivo principal evaluar los patrones del sexismo ambivalente en adolescentes. Para ello se utiliza el Inventario de Sexismo Ambivalente De Lemus, Catillo, Moya, Padilla y Ryan (2008) que evalúa las dos dimensiones del sexismo ambivalente: el hostil y el benévolo. La muestra estuvo formada por 40 estudiantes de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria, pertenecientes a los centros “Santa Catalina de Alejandría” (Jaén), “Las Carmelitas” (Jaén) y al centro “San Juan Bautista” (Navas de San Juan, Jaén). Los resultados reflejaron que la población adolescente estudiada no presentaba un sexismo claramente marcado y, aunque se daban actitudes sexistas (benévolas y/o hostiles) en los participantes, las medias estaban por debajo de las halladas en investigaciones previas.

The quality of adolescents' relationships may be affected by gender stereotypes, sexist beliefs or gender roles.In the study the main objective of this research was to evaluate the patterns of ambivalent sexism in adolescents. The study used the Ambivalent Sexism Inventory by Lemus, Catillo, Moya, Padilla and Ryan (2008) that assesses the two dimensions of ambivalent sexism: hostile and benevolent sexism. The sample consisted of 40 students of compulsory secondary education, belonging to the centres "Santa Catalina de Alejandría" (Jaén), "Las Carmelitas" (Jaén) and "San Juan Bautista" (Navas de San Juan, Jaén). The results showed that the adolescent sample did not show high sexism attitude; although there were sexist (benevolent and / or hostile) attitudes among the participants, the averages were below comparing to those in previous research.
