This Master’s Dissertation has been created for the 4th year of Compulsory Secondary Education, following an eclectic methodology that aims on the one hand, to foster the use of literature in the EFL class in Spanish schools, showing its benefits among students, and on the other hand, to encourage reading habits among teenagers. Besides, selection criteria to use graded readers as a useful tool to acquire a Second language are included. Furthermore, research on Gothic fiction main themes, features, authors and Academic Criticism has been carried out to prove that it is a motivational topic for adolescents that may identify with the situations described in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, with the purpose of making them reflect on their own emotions and behaviour after analysing the novel in class. Besides, a Didactic Unit has been designed with different types of activities to work with concepts such as isolation, monster or transgression.
