In recent years, a wide variety of devices have been developed to help these people. Many have been initiated by research groups aware of their needs. Very few have been translated into commercial products and those that have, are too expensive to reach the general public or developing countries. The objective of this project is to build a prototype aid, which allows greater autonomy to people with blindness, to function in unfamiliar or changing environments, at low cost. This accessory will not replace others whose use is standardized, such as canes or guide dogs, but will complement them in certain situations.
